Jadora was founded by Alison Israel in response to what she saw as a market need for an innovative, yet timeless home furnishing collection. In essence, Jadora and the basis of its concept have arisen from a lifetime of experiences. Her story.
My family dynamics set the tone.
From a very young age I was exposed to a great deal. A city girl growing up in the heart of DC, I was raised by parents who were both ambitious go-getters. City life lead us to plays, ethnic restaurants, abortion protests, war riots. Whatever was happening at the moment we were in the middle of it with open eyes.
My parent’s passions and my father’s career further opened our eyes and exposed us to the world. Traveling at a very young age, we visited China, Micronesia, Central America, and Africa. Naturally, following in my parents footsteps, I developed wanderlust and a great desire to know and experience everything new and different. I was taught from the get-go to think big, because there is a huge world out there.
After graduating from college, I moved to San Francisco and worked for an event design company. Here my creativity flourished and I learned how my international experiences, my love for creativity and design, and my sense of adventure and desire to experience new things could all be used in my career.
Creating décor for galas, grand openings, and window displays, my imagination was the only limit. I worked with numerous manufacturers and suppliers to create customized, innovative décor for events. Seeing that the possibilities were endless, and that “something unique,” was difficult to find, I decided to bring a more innovative and sophisticated look to everyday home furnishings.
Through my worldwide travel I developed a passion and appreciation for culture, experience, and the variety of talents that every region has to offer. Perhaps unparalleled to other experiences was my discovery of Vietnam. The incredible craftsmanship and design the country and the people have to offer has meant one thing: This was to be the birthplace of Jadora.
The French influence on an already defined culture was undoubtedly the place to plant the seed for my dream of a Company, international in nature. The collaboration of a variety of experiences and backgrounds to complete a whole is the fundamental nature which defines Jadora. The Company, now, represents a worldly diverse team with a variety of cultural backgrounds working in harmony to complete the puzzle and create the quintessence of sophistication, high design, and customer satisfaction of Jadora.
Once established, I spent 3 months in Vietnam in the first year to work with the team of designers and manufacturers. We established a partnership with the best and most well known factory in the country, and have worked tirelessly to perfect the product.
The next piece of the puzzle was the marketing side and the US launch of Jadora which occurred at the San Francisco International Gift Fair, where Jadora received an award for best in show. From this point forward the Company has begun to blossom as planned. Now, once again, the only limit is imagination. Exhibiting in wholesale exhibitions around the country, we strive to stay on the pulse of the industry by bringing updated designs and new collections to the market.
The plan today is much of what it was at the outset, I strive to move Jadora forward to build its international base and further the melting of cultures under one concept which emulates the Jadora line: Innovative yet timeless products that have an inherent element of culture and sophistication.
News! The Family business continues. Andrew Legge, Alison's husband, joined the Jadora team in Spring 2005. Andrew has come on to run the financial side of Jadora and to help run overall operations. In hopes to further develop and increase the quality of the Jadora product, Alison and Andrew have recently relocated to Vietnam to work first hand on the production side of the business.
